Family Photo Fashion Tips | Summer Style | Blues & Pinks

It’s one of the most common questions I get before any shoot:
What should we wear for our photo session?
The answer isn’t really straightforward, but here are a few simple tips:
1 – Pick a colour scheme. Stick to a few colours and experiment with patterns, but nothing too busy or distracting. Some folks are really organized/creative and pick colours that match their home decor since they plan on having the photos displayed as art in their home.
2 – Don’t be too matchy-matchy. Gone are the days of everyone in khakis and a white button up – it doesn’t look natural and isn’t flattering.
3 – Embrace Colour! Bright colours look great in photos and really make you (the subject matter) pop, but pastels and whites are also good if you are looking for a more romantic & peaceful feel to your images (great for maternity & newborn shoots). Try to avoid dark colours such as black or brown.
4 – Avoid Logos & Trends. They distract from the image and can look dated. As a photographer, I wish I could always edit them out, but it isn’t always possible.
5 – Be Yourself!
Wear your favorite outfit, something you are comfortable with & look great in. Jeans are great for outdoor shoots, especially if a lot of walking or posing is required.

Here’s an example of a blue & pink scheme I threw together for summer 2012:

I’m hoping to do more of these as the seasons & styles change, stay tuned! 🙂
